Mr. Shaun DeLoche, Delran High School Math teacher and one of the Managers of the Delran Innovation & Fabrication Lab, was selected as one of ten Philadelphia Eagles & Axalta ALL-PRO Teachers for 2020!
The Philadelphia Eagles & Axalta ALL-PRO Teacher program "recognizes outstanding 5th through 12th grade teachers in the tri-state area for their contribution to their students, school and community." District STEM Coordinator Erica DeMichele nominated Mr. DeLoche because of his dedication to his classroom practice, and to the greater DHS and DelranSTEM communities.
In the nomination application, Mrs. DeMichele wrote the following: "Mr. DeLoche is a mathematics teacher at Delran High School, as well as the Digital Fabrication Manager, Bear Den (School Store) Manager and club advisor to the Automotive Club. In addition, he spends hours of his time in the Delran Innovation & Fabrication Laboratory with his colleagues and students to better enable them for a STEM future, including career opportunities. To utilize the tools in the Lab, Shaun has not only learned the software but applies that knowledge to fabrication. He has integrated his Geometry class in the Fab Lab. Through the engineer design process, Shaun has the students do a bridge building challenge using two platforms. The first is through the use of K’Nex. The second is teaching the students Corel Draw, then applying the principles to laser cut wood and cardboard in a scale model of the bridge. This is something they could not attain through K’Nex alone. This mastery of teaching, synthesizing many learning styles in one helps students deeply dive into the work. They have even gone to the State House in NJ during the NJ STEM Month festivities, to show off their learning to legislators! Shaun is an educator who not only loves kids, but was born to teach others. His patient problem solving with elementary, high school, community members, Board of Education members, legislators, Senators, Congressmen, and even members of a Chinese delegation from Wenzhou, China, demonstrates a commitment to teaching and learning that not all teachers attain. Every one of the blogs on our website highlight's Shaun's various roles as an educator."
Mr. DeLoche cares deeply about all of his students, which is demonstrated by his high expectations and supports for success. Delran Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Brotschul noted that Mr. DeLoche's commitment to his students was highlighted on one specific day last June. When the pandemic prevented a traditional graduation ceremony, school district administration and Board of Education members rode around town in a school bus to hand-deliver diplomas to the homes of each graduating senior. Mr. DeLoche trailed the "Diploma Express," so that he could see his students receive each of their diplomas.
As a Philadelphia Eagles & Axalta ALL-PRO Teacher, Mr. DeLoche wins some cool Eagles gear and experiences, in addition to a $2,000.00 prize for our school. Mr. DeLoche will use this award to provide additional math & STEM experiences to students at DHS.
